Since the early 20th century, many people with disabilities and chronic mental health conditions were not treated equally. While public policy began to shift in the mid-1900s, it was not until the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed in 1990 that disability rights dramatically changed.

This month we are seeing more states introducing bills or voting on Medicaid Expansion and/or funding. Additionally, states increase funding and resources for behavioral health.

In this month’s report, we see a positive trend as states carve out more Medicaid funding for adults with disabilities and raise minimum wages for direct support workers. Additionally, as Omicron continues to crush health care workers already under strain from nearly two years of grappling with the pandemic, health care providers are making great strides as they pivot to face the mounting challenges.
